Characteristic of the forest-garden is its size. It
should be quite large in order to achieve the desired effect. But
even in a smaller garden much can be achieved, as long as the
immediate surroundings of the area offer a sihouet of large trees
and shrubs.
Style-elements are garden-walks covered with
splitted wood, and sculptures and ornaments, which are positioned
here and there, as if they have always been there.
In a forest-garden a variety of trees will grow.
Foliage-trees, but also different kinds of pine-trees to keep the
garden attractive throughout the winter. Suitable undergrowth could
be lily-of-the-valley, hostas, ferns, wood-anemones and rodgersias.
Tulips, crocusses and other bulbs will give a short-termed
color-explosion in early spring. A well-designed forest-garden looks
very natural and asks very little maintanence.
Now and then some weeding and/or cutting is enough.
This type of garden can be left to itself for many weeks.
